"BAD BUT PROUD"

The Bad Golfers Association of Citrus Hills, Florida.

History

The Bad Golfers Association was founded in the northeastern United States in 1963 by three golfers Phil Oliphant, Andrew McMeel and John McMeel who loved the game of golf. From these founding fathers many BGA Chapters have formed over the years in various sections of the United States. Seven golfers got together to form a BGA Chapter in Central Florida. This BGA Chapter played its first BGA Tournament Classic in March of 1997 at the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club in Hernando, Florida. This was the beginning of this BGA Chapter that has grown to over fifty members with several alternates waiting to become full members. Every Monday and Friday one will find approximately 40 BGA golfers wandering the fairways of The Oaks or The Meadows golf courses at Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club. These BGA golfers will enjoy both a round of golf and fellowship playing many types of games including whack & hack, sucker in the bucket, yellow ball, match play, team point quota and more. This diverse group of BGA golfers, with handicaps from 6 to 36, will be involved in one of many unique matches. BGA Classics are held each month when BGA golfers wear their official BGA hat and shirt. ( See Yearly Classic Calendar.) BGA members range in ages from the mid-fifties to the low-nineties and is more than a golf group. This group is based both on companionship and fellowship. These members care and support each other on and off the golf course. BGA members are always there for each other when there is a need. Family members are included periodically through the annual BGA Family picnic, Ladies Day, and dinner dances. BGA golfers reach out to the community by contributing to local charities like Daystar, CASA, Backpack Blessings, Boys & Girls Clubs, Feeding Alliance, Family Resource Center and Hospices. BGA golfers enjoy special golf adventures through out the year by traveling to various golf resorts for two to three days of golf and fellowship. These adventures are popular among BGA golfers. Summer brings the opportunity to play a round of golf at various courses in the area. BGA golfers also look forward to putting contests that are held through out the year that provides lots of laughs. As the BGA has grown many interesting awards have been added such as the Hall of Shame, Breakfast of Champions, BGA Sandbagger, Snowbird Award, Hot Dog Award, Mickey Mouse Award, Turkey Award, and The Human Support Award given to members that demonstrate kindness, thoughtfulness and helpfulness towards others.
